There are lots of churches in France. We all heard of the famous ones such as : Notre Dame de Paris (which is under extensive reconstruction after the fire in April 2019 that destroyed the roof and the spire with no realistic date of re-opening), Basilica of Sacre-Coeur in the Montmartre area of Paris, Ste Chapelle, but there are so many more churches in every quartier of the city. By our account, my family has visited 9 churches during our visit to Paris and Strasbourg: St Germain des Pres, Ste Eustache, St Sulpice, St-Etienne du Mont, Ste Louise at the Invalides, Sacre Coeur, Cathedrale of Strasbourg, Protestant church of St Thomas in Strasbourg, St Martin in Colmar. All have been built a long time ago. Each has marvelous stained glass windows. At Christmas time, all churches also have a nativity scene. The Sacre Coeur is celebrating its centennial with multiple programs reaching out to the community. We listened to carolling in front of churches. We answered to the invite to come inside the church to meditate and worship from the members of the congregation and from theology students in the Sorbonne area. Below are just a very small sample of the pictures of the churches we visited. The pictures of the stained glass windows do not do them justice so I did not include them.
